The Personal Support Worker Certificate program is a demanding six-month foundation program delivered in an online – format over a shorter period of time. This program prepares students to meet patients’ needs – injury, illness, or disability. Students will learn about the physical, emotional, and psychological impacts of patients’ injury, illness, developmental delay, or disability. Students will learn how to provide optimum care; retrieve information from various resources, build confidence and self-reliance.

This program is for dedicated, diligent, enthusiastic, and eager individuals who are looking for requisite knowledge in Healthcare, interested in starting a career in Health care, New to Canada with a background knowledge in Healthcare and are internationally trained professionals.

Regular Applicants
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
- Alberta Grade 12 English Language and Mathematics or
- Successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test that consists of five tests with a minimum score of 450 in each test;
- An equivalent Advanced Level Adult Basic Education mathematics course;
- Applicants with International transcripts must provide proof of the subject specific requirements
- A student from non-English speaking countries should provide in addition to any or combination of the above, proof of IELTS-International English Language Testing Service-Overall band of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each band.
Mature Applicants
- Mature applicants are at least 19 years of age and have been out of the full-time senior secondary study for at least one year.
- Senior secondary graduation will be waived for mature applicants.
- Eligibility may be determined by academic achievement testing for which a fee will be charged.
- A student from non-English speaking countries should provide in addition to any or combination of the above, proof of IELTS-International English Language Testing Service-Overall band of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each band.
Graduates of this program will be able to work within the personal support role in the client’s home, the community, long-term care homes, retirement homes, community health settings, and acute-care under the support of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Registered Nurse (RN).
In Canada, The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot are 5-year pilot programs that let qualified caregivers and their family members come to Canada with the goal of becoming permanent residents. You need to be offered a job in Canada as a caregiver or have experience working in Canada as a caregiver, you may be able to apply for permanent residence through one of these pilots. The application process will be different depending on your situation and how much qualifying work experience you have
