Arrival Services

If you would like someone to meet you at the airport upon arrival at Edmonton International Airport, you should ensure that you book an airport pickup with us. Airport pickups must be arranged in advance and all the information you need will be provided.

As an international student, you will need to locate appropriate rental accommodations. Canadian Imperial College does not offer student housing. For information on accommodation please refer to the *list below or contact an International Admission Representative for further information or resources.

Medical Insurance

Make sure you have medical coverage before you begin classes. If you do not have coverage, you can contact international@canadianimperial.ca.

Orientation

The best way you should start your time at Canadian Imperial College on the right foot is by attending International Student Orientation. This is the day that you will receive essential information on how to achieve success throughout your studies and upon graduation.

Information provided includes:

  • Meet the staff from the International Office and other international students
  • How your health insurance works
  • Setting up a bank account in Canada
  • Immigration issues regarding studying and working in Canada
  • Workshops on how to achieve academic success while at Canadian Imperial College
  • Learning about the many resources available to support you during your studies

  • Meet the student services team and discover a number of on-campus services

Visitor’s Visa

Immigration

Study Permit

You will need a Study Permit if you are taking a program that is more than six months.

We currently have our in-house Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) that will assist you with your study permit application at no cost to you. Please feel free to use this service for better and successful study permit application. 

As per current Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) guidelines, international students graduating from licensed programs at a private career college in Alberta are not eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Applying to Canadian Imperial College

As an international student, you’ll need to follow several steps to apply and be accepted into our programs. Here’s what you need to know:

 

  1. Submit Your Application:
    • Complete the online application form.
    • Provide all necessary academic transcripts and documents.
    • Pay the application fee.
    1. Receive Your Letter of Acceptance:
      • Once your application is reviewed and accepted, you will receive a Letter of Acceptance from Canadian Imperial College.
      1. Obtain a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL):
        • Use your Letter of Acceptance to apply for a Provincial Attestation Letters (PAL), submitted on your behalf by Canadian Imperial College to Alberta Advanced Educations.
        • Ensure you meet all IRCC requirements.
        1. Obtain a Study Permit:
          • Use your Letter of Acceptance and Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) to apply for a study permit through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
          • Ensure you meet all IRCC requirements.
          Admission Process

          Congratulations on deciding to further your education! To become a Canadian Imperial College student, please follow the following process:

          Step 1 – Application

          • Click “Apply” on our official website; www.canadianimperial.ca to apply to our college. While applying, the non-refundable application fee will be automatically applied.
          • Submit all admission requirements online. Ensure that your transcripts have been received and submitted.
          • If you did not submit your transcripts at the time of submitting your application online, please send your transcripts directly to Canadian Imperial College at admission@canadianimperial.ca.
          • If your first language is not English, please provide proof that you have completed English language proficiency.
          • Complete applications are processed in the order that they are received. We have three intakes each year but will except applicants year-round. If approved, you will be allowed to enroll in the upcoming semester.

          Step 2- Determination

          • Once your complete application document is received, the admissions team will assess and verify your documents, to determine your admissibility. Some programs may require additional testing.
          • If successful, an offer letter will be sent to the email on your application document. With details on tuition deposit and further instructions.
          • Unsuccessful candidates will also be notified via the email on their application documents.

          Step 3 – Acceptance 

          • If you accept our admission offer, a non-transferable tuition deposit will be required to reserve the seat in your program. This deposit will be applied to your tuition.
          • Once your tuition deposit is confirmed, Canadian Imperial College will issue you an “acceptance letter”.
          Provincial Attestation Letters (PAL)

          As part of the Government of Canada’s national cap on applications for international study permits, international students at Canadian Imperial College may require a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL).

          Requirements for PAL

          Payment of First Year Tuition: You must pay the full tuition fee for your first academic year before a PAL can be issued.

          Proof of Financial Resources: You must provide evidence demonstrating that you have sufficient funds to cover:

            • Tuition fees for the entire duration of your studies.
            • Living expenses for yourself and any family members accompanying you to Canada.
            • Return transportation costs for yourself and any accompanying family members.

          Letter of Explanation: Submit a letter detailing your study plans, reasons for choosing Canadian Imperial College, and how your program aligns with your career goals.

          PAL Process

          Our admissions team will help guide you through the PAL application process. Once you have paid your tuition and provided the necessary documentation, we will forward your PAL request to Alberta Advanced Education.

          Advanced Education has developed a digital tool for issuing PALs, and instructions on how to access the portal will be provided.

          FINANCE

          Canadian Imperial College Diploma in Finance is an expected two-year program emphasizing the development of a comprehensive understanding of theory and application of finance.

          Business Administration & Management

          The two-year Business Administration & Management Diploma program emphasizes real-world business application management concepts. 

          COMPUTER SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY

          Canadian Imperial College Diploma in Computer Systems Technology is an expected two-year program emphasizing the development of a comprehensive understanding of theory and application in Information Technology industry.

          PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

          Canadian Imperial College Pharmacy Technician Diploma is a 49-week program emphasizing the development of a comprehensive understanding of theory and application in a pharmacy setting.

          LEGAL ADMINISTRATION

          Canadian Imperial College Diploma in Legal Administration. This is a two-year foundation program aimed at providing core clerical skills and terminology to allow an individual to core administration skills in legal office environments, current issues within Canadian Law.

          Certificate Programs

          Finance

          Canadian Imperial College offers an Undergraduate Certificate in Finance program. This is a one year foundation program prepares students to pursue many careers in the financial industry.

          Business Administration and Management

          Canadian Imperial College offers an Undergraduate Certificate in Business Management. This is a one-year foundation program aimed at providing a clear pathway for advanced education or work career.

          Community Support

          The one-year Community Support Certificate program will provide students with safe and competent support for individuals in need. With the opportunity to pursue meaningful and differences in the lives of individuals in the public and private sectors.

          Computer Technology

          Canadian Imperial College offers an Undergraduate Certificate in Computer Technology. This is a one-year foundation program aimed at providing a clear pathway for you with the skills you need to become a skilled member of the IT profession.

          Pharmacy Assistant

          Canadian Imperial College offers an Undergraduate Pharmacy Assistant Certificate. This is a one-year foundation program prepares students to pursue many careers in the pharmacy settings. This program can also prepare students by providing a clear pathway to new advances and innovation in both retail and institutional pharmacies.

          Online Fast-Tracked

          Online Fast-Tracked Caregiving and Support Work

          A strong foundation is offered by the Combined Caregiving and Support Work Certificate Program to those who want to get into and succeed in the caregiving and support sector. Graduates are prepared to tackle the increasing demands of this crucial industry and pursue rewarding, meaningful employment because of the strong emphasis on professional development, ethical behaviour, and practical skills.
